What a great museum, it may be little but it has a big heart and soul with its collections. Definitely stop in, for $8 per adult there’s no excuse to miss it, especially if you consider yourself someone who knows your Texas rock and roll stars. I went there for Janis of course but left wishing I had way more time to peruse the other exhibits. Appreciate the docent who took the time to ensure that I was able to commune with my namesake for a moment. If you are a Janis fan like me, ask them about the bricks for sale, then head over to 4048 Proctor street with your new favorite souvenir.
What a wonderful museum. Filled with all kinds of history about Port Arthur and people from Port Arthur. Amazing how many famous people came from there and surrounding areas. Very informative museum!
Was in Port Arthur yesterday, and had some time to kill. Decided to visit “Museum Of The Gulf Coast”, after years of only hearing about it.
It’s more than just Janis & The Big Bopper. Recognized familiar names, and learned new ones! It really covers everything about the area, going back even thousands of years.
You bet we took advantage of our senior discounts 😉, and you should too. Everybody was super friendly, + they don’t bug you but rather let you explore on your own.
Will definitely go back with my film camera, and more time, to fully document the entire experience. (It’s so good, my wife even wants to go again)!
Amazing museum consisting of multiple topics. One of my favorite in the Beaumont Metropolitan Area. Includes Port Arthur and Orange.
It's a nice place to learn about Texas history and petroleum well. I really enjoy the time I was there.
So much really interesting and cool stuff. At $8 an adult it is worth it. Enjoy the drive over also, lots of real life to see. The history and knowledge held here is timeless and diverse.
The Museum had lots of local history! There are also events hosted by the museum for donors. I entered one of my photos in the annual photography contest.
Update: if you need tee shirts from SFA, Lincoln, or TJ High Schools you will find them at the museum!!!!
A nice little museum tucked away in downtown Port Arthur. It has exhibits on the flora and fauna of the area, Port Arthur and Texas in general, as well as famous Texans (to include Port Arthur native Janis Joplin), musicians, and the oil field. Quite a few interesting Native American exhibits as well.
All in all a nice way to spend a lazy hot afternoon in an air conditioned learning environment.
